ELD Long Term Substitute

 
Purpose: Provide students, for whom, English is not their primary language, support and access to their education by way of assessment, instruction and collaboration with the faculty.
 
Classification: Teacher
 
Reports To/Supervised By: CEO & Principal
 
Knowledge and Skill Requirements: ELD Certification, K-6 Elementary Certification
 
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Provides in-class instructional support to ELD students
  • General teacher duties and responsibilities
  • Screen Home Language Surveys.
  • Conduct assessments for eligibility for the ELD program.
  • Serve as a liaison between the student and other teachers, staff members, and family and assists as needed to enable communication between families and school employees, including both written and spoken forms of communication.
  • Administer specialized ELD assessments (ex. WIDA).
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provides progress reports as required, and communicates with families, while also providing opportunities for socialization and acculturation.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law.
  • Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement and accesses translators as needed.
  • Attends IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with state and federal law.
  • Serve as District Coordinator for ACCESS for ELLs and fulfill all coordinator responsibilities.
  • Serve as liaison between Seven Generations and PDE/WIDA regarding all ELD.
  • Keep abreast of developments (including participation in off-site training and online webinars) in Bilingual/ESL Education and changes in ESL law to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Develop ELD Policy and Program Descriptions and create forms for Seven Generations.
  • Lead ELD Professional Development for all staff.
  • Assist with PIMS and LEP reports.

Paraprofessional

Purpose    To assist high-needs students behaviorally and academically

Classification   Non-exempt

Reports To/Supervised By      Principal

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

 Recommended education and experience: two years post-secondary education, completion of an Associate’s Degree; prior experience working with special needs students

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the instruction of students including assistance with laboratories, washrooms, playgrounds, gymnasiums, lunchrooms, libraries, field trips and all other educational settings as determined by the classroom teacher
  2. Provides reinforcement of material taught by the classroom teacher and assists in providing direct academic, supportive, and behavioral instruction to students as directed
  3. Responsible for guiding any independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the classroom teacher, including helping the students stay on task and getting class work completed
  4. Maintains or modifies students’ curriculum as necessary
  5. Maintains appropriate documentation of student progress on completing assignments presented by student’s teachers and student behavior
  6. Assists students in testing situations
  7. Responsible for implementing behavior plans, following behavior plans as outlined and managing any behavior problems as soon as they arise
  8. Communicates daily with various groups of people outside the classroom including parents, school counselor, technical team, occupational therapist, speech therapist and administrators to assure smooth transition of students
  9. Attends parent/teacher conferences as required
  10. At times will maintain an alternative classroom for administratively placed students who are experiencing behavioral difficulties. This will include implementation of behavior processing interview and monitoring of student progress
  11. Performs other duties as may be necessary and assigned by the classroom teacher and/or administrator
