Johanna Roche

5-8 Curriculum Director

Johanna started her teaching career at SGCS in 2016 as the Environment and Ecology Teacher. She transitioned to Pen Argyl Area High School in 2020 where she taught environmental, integrated, and physical sciences. She returned to SGCS in 2022 as the 5-8 Curriculum Director. In this position, Johanna mentors and collaborates with our secondary teachers to strengthen our standards aligned EIC curriculum model, community partnerships, service learning initiatives, and instructional practices across all content areas. Johanna works alongside Jen Hersh to develop and facilitate staff professional development and monitor the progress of student achievement to ensure that curriculum and instruction are meeting the diverse needs of our students.

Before beginning her professional career, Johanna spent her summers working at the Wildlands Conservancy as part of the education team. She earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Gettysburg College as well as an M.Ed. in Environmental Education from Slippery Rock University. Johanna grew up in the Lehigh Valley and enjoys spending time in the natural areas our community  provides. She has a passion for both international and domestic travel and hopes to see all corners of the world.
